Summary
The Hayter Harrier 41 VS 60V is a cordless lawn mower, powered by a 60v 6.0Ah battery that will provide enough runtime to cut a lawn up to 300m² (7.5Ah battery up to 600m2 max). It has a 41cm cutting width and 7 cutting heights that range from 13mm to 60mm, has a rear roller for a striped lawn appearance and a variable speed drive between 1.0 and 3.3mph. This mower comes with a 5 year manufacturer’s domestic warranty when serviced annually by an authorised Hayter dealer.
I recently talked about the Hayter Harrier 48 VS cordless mower, which is a gigantic cordless lawn mower made for large lawns. But then I got to thinking; does this premium brand offer anything smaller for people with not such large lawns. I’m pleased to say that the answer to that question is yes! The Hayter Harrier 41 VS is great for gardens around 300m² and aside from having a 1.5kw motor, as opposed to the 2.0kw motor on the 48 model, the deck size is the only difference.
If you’re looking for a cordless lawn mower that will be a viable petrol alternative, then I’d strongly recommend giving this one a chance. OK, it’s something of an investment but you’re paying for superior quality and a cut that’ll blow your socks off!
The main feature of this lawn mower is the ribbed rear roller and heavy mower that gives lasting stripes and a wonderfully formal look to the lawn. But there are plenty of other things to get excited about, so let’s take a deep dive with my Hayter Harrier 41 VS review.

Features In Detail
Power System and Batteries
If you thought that cordless lawn mowers weren’t powerful then the Hayter Harrier 41 VS might just change your mind. It runs on a powerful 60v battery that delivers consistent and reliable power; when you’re out of juice, it takes just 180 minutes to recharge so you won’t be left waiting around.
What’s more, this is a battery sharing tool, so the battery can be used across the entire 60v Hayter range which includes things like trimmers and leaf blowers. You can purchase the Hayter Harrier 41 VS as a bare tool or with a 6.0Ah or 7.5Ah battery, depending on your needs. Keep in mind that the higher the Ah number, the longer the battery will run for, so if you have a bigger garden, you’d want to go for the 7.5Ah.
Runtime Battery Guide
- 6.0Ah covers lawns up to 300m²
- 7.5Ah covers lawns up to 600m² max (I would recommend this battery)
This lawn mower also benefits from power boost technology meaning that the motor will adjust power according to the current conditions. If the grass is longer, then it’ll give a little more welly. You’ll also benefit from variable speed ranging between 1.0 and 3.3mph allowing you to mow at a pace that is suitable for you. The control handle for this is conveniently located, so you can switch it up as you go and the push button start gets you moving without any hassle.
Deck and Blade
The Hayter Harrier 41 VS benefits from a strong and reliable rotary blade that sits in an aluminium cutting deck. Aluminium is a lightweight material that is perfect for outdoor tools like this as it is extremely resistant to rust and is part of the reason that the Hayter Harrier 41 VS comes with such a generous warranty – more on that later!
With a cutting width of 41cm, this mower is suitable for gardens up to a maximum of 600m², but will work equally well on smaller lawns where the quality of the cut is the most important thing. However, if you have a slightly larger lawn, there are some other good options from Hayter.
I have already mentioned the Hayter Harrier 48 VS 60V which has pretty much the same features as this mower, but a larger deck making it suitable for bigger lawns. You might also consider the Hayter Osprey 46 which, as the name suggests, has a 46cm cutting deck. The only real difference here is that the Osprey doesn’t come with a rear roller, preventing you from being able to achieve that striped look.
Handles
Everything about the Hayter Harrier 41 VS offers convenience and that is certainly the case where the handles are concerned. Everything you need to operate the mower is within easy reach making mowing as effortless as it can be.
Furthermore, the handles will fold down, lessening the profile of the mower and therefore, making it easier to store.
Height Adjustment
One of the major selling points of the Hayter Harrier 41 VS aside from the versatile rear roller, which I’ll detail shortly, is the low cutting height. This mower will go as low as 13mm (one of the lowest cutting settings of any rotary mower on the market) and can be adjusted along seven settings up to 60mm. Not only this but the Vari-pitch alters the angle of the front of the mower ensuring optimal airflow throughout the entire mowing session.
The height adjustment is done using a central handle eliminating the need for any complex adjustments and saving you time.
Now if all of this wasn’t enough, the Hayter Harrier 41 VS has a nice little additional feature that is perfect for lawns where there are a lot of trees; leaf collection. Above the highest cutting height, there is a further setting that allows the mower to collect leaves, leaving your garden looking vastly more tidy!
Roller (Stripes)
I’ve mentioned the amazing rear roller that is on the Hayter Harrier 41 VS several times already in this review, but let’s really get down to business and look at this significant feature.
A lot of lawn mowers have a rear roller, it’s certainly not something that is exclusive to the Hayter Harrier 41 VS, but the one on this machine is far superior to anything I’ve seen in a long time; if at all. It is a split roller which means that you aren’t going to struggle when turning the mower, vastly improving manoeuvrability without having to compromise on those all important stripes.
What’s more, the roller is ribbed giving you much greater grip on the ground and improving the overall traction of the mower. If all of this wasn’t enough, the Hayter Harrier 41 VS is a heavy machine and this gives the roller an extra boost leaving you with much longer lasting stripes.
Performance
Hayter is known for its high-end tools and the Hayter Harrier 41 VS is a perfect example of this. If you’re looking for something that will give you a clean and neat cut then this is by far one of the best machines on the market.
But much more than this, the Hayter Harrier 41 VS is one of the best cordless lawn mowers for stripes and this is something that the brand has developed a reputation for. You’ll get a short cut that is consistently neat, so if you like a very formal looking garden, I’d highly recommend this.
Another great feature of the Hayter Harrier 41 VS is the Trim Side which makes getting to the edge of the lawn so much easier. You won’t need to worry about spending hours edging the lawn once you’ve mowed as the mower does most of it for you.
Practicalities
I’m really excited about this lawn mower and if you thought you’d seen all of the features of the Hayter Harrier 41 VS then you’ll be pleased to know that there is more to come. For starters, you’re getting one of the most generous warranties I’ve seen. Hayter gives you a 5 year warranty on the mower as well as three years on the battery.
There is a catch though, you have to have the mower serviced by Hayter annually if you don’t want to risk voiding the warranty. Is that such a bad thing? Perhaps not, at least you’ll know that your mower will always be in the best working condition and you’ll be protecting the serious investment you have made.
More than this, the Hayter Harrier 41 VS comes with a feature that you don’t see very often on cordless mowers; a hose wash port. This is typically reserved for petrol mowers, but since this is a great petrol alternative, Hayter has done well to include it. It might not be an essential feature, but it’s certainly one that is going to save you a lot of time and effort when it comes to cleaning and maintenance.
Safety Features
In order to start the Hayter Harrier 41 VS, you need to use the safety key which straight away makes it safe from accidental starting.
The other safety feature, that is standard on most mowers, is the two hand safety button to prevent the machine being started accidentally. As soon as you let go of the start lever, the motor stops immediately.
Mulching
This feature is not available on this model which is pretty standard for lawn mowers that have a dedicated rear roller.

Pros and Cons
As I said earlier, there are many advantages to this lawn mower but there are a few downsides. Let me explain both so you know what you are getting and if this is the best option for you.
Should You Buy This Hayter Harrier 41 VS?
Do I think you should buy the Hayter Harrier 41 VS? If you’re looking for an excellent petrol alternative for a mid-sized garden then absolutely. In fact, there wouldn’t be any other machine I’d recommend more. This mower has everything you need for a clean, precise and neat mow and then some!
With a great range of cutting heights that go as low as 13mm and as high as being able to collect leaves, you’re getting amazing versatility. It’s also a great choice for anyone who wants to create a long lasting striped lawn thanks to the equally versatile ribbed, split rear roller.
If you want the power of petrol and the convenience of cordless, then this should be a serious consideration. Yes, it might be a lot more expensive than other options, but it’s certainly an investment that I would consider to be more than worth it.
To give you some guidance on which type of customer would suit this model best, below I’ve listed the categories they fall under:
- People with gardens up to 600m2 in size (with 7.5Ah battery). Recommended for 300m2 lawns with standard battery.
- People who do like a striped lawn.
- Those who want a self-propelled variable speed drive.
- Those that like to power share batteries with other garden tools.
- People who want generous 7 cutting heights that range from 13mm to 60mm. (13mm is extremely low compared to other cordless mowers)
- People who like to cut their lawn exceptionally low for formal appearance.
- Those who like the convenience of having no power cord or have limited or no access to a power source in the garden.
- People who like to purchase a trusted premium brand with good after sales support.
Conclusion
More and more manufacturers are throwing out cordless mowers and I have to say that some are shockingly inferior. But that is not the case with the Hayter Harrier 41 VS; this is a premium lawn mower that has a range of useful features that make maintaining your garden something of a joy.
The mower has variable speeds, a low cutting height, cuts to the edge of the lawn, a very effective rear roller and so much more. I can’t think of any reason why anyone wouldn’t love using this tool if you have the budget available!
