Summary
The Bosch AdvancedRotak 36-660 is a cordless lawn mower that charges its batteries in around 65 minutes and produces 50 minutes of run time. It has a large 50 litre grass box, a 40cm cutting width and 7 cutting heights that range from 25mm to 80mm. The Bosch AdvancedRotak 36-660 Cordless Lawnmower is best suited to lawns up to 650m² in size.
This AdvancedRotak 36-660 is the bigger brother of the Bosch UniversalRotak 36-560 and these two new mowers from Bosch are almost identical. For this reason, I am not going to write a full review of this larger Bosch cordless mower, but direct you to the full review of the Bosch UniversalRotak 36-560 here. But before you go – you need to know what the differences are between these two mowers so you get the one that is best suited to you and your lawn.
Below I have outlined the small differences between the Bosch AdvancedRotak 36-660 and the Bosch UniversalRotak 36-560 so you know exactly what you are getting with both mowers. I have also created a comparison table so you can clearly see the differences between them.
So, let’s get on with outlining the differences…

What’s the difference between the AdvancedRotak 36-660 and the AdvancedRotak 36-650?
These two models are identical apart from the battery supplied, details below.
- The Bosch AdvancedRotak 36-660 comes supplied with 2 x 2.oAh batteries – Lawns up to 660m²

Differences between the Bosch AdvancedRotak 36-660 and the Bosch UniversalRotak 36-560

Features In Detail
Deck Size
The most obvious difference between these two Bosch lawn mowers is the size of the blade or deck. The deck size on the AdvancedRotak 36-660 is 4cm larger at 40cm compared with 36cm of the UniversalRotak 36-560.
AdvancedRotak 36-660 = 40cm
UniversalRotak 36-560 = 36cm
The larger deck size on this mower is why Bosch classify this mower as covering lawns up to 650m², that’s 90m² larger that the UniversalRotak 36-560. Remember, the size of a tennis court is around 260m², this should give you an idea as to how much more the AdvancedRotak 36-660 will cover on a single charge. The larger deck size simply cuts more lawn on every pass even though the run time of these mowers is the same.
But that’s not the only difference….
Features
Whilst both these high end cordless lawn mowers are packed with features such as the LeafCollect, ProSilience etc, there is another slight difference between the UniversalRotak and the AdvancedRotak.
The handles on both these mowers are Ergoflex but on the AdvancedRotak it goes one step further. The AdvancedRotak also has ErgoSlide handles that allow you to not only slide the handles up and down but also to fold the handles completely flat. You can see both the ErgoSlide and folding handles in action in my video review below (the video is of the corded version of this mower).
The only other slight difference with regards to features relates to the number and range of cutting heights.
AdvancedRotak 36-660 = 7 Heights – 25mm to 80mm
UniversalRotak 36-560 = 6 Heights – 25mm to 70mm
In summary, you have one more cutting height with this AdvancedRotak mower that allows a higher setting to 80mm. This is useful if the grass has been left to grow too long as it allows you to start at a higher setting and then keep reducing the height. Why is this important? Well, remember this is a battery powered mower and cutting thick long grass on a low setting will significantly reduce the run time of the mower.
Grass Collection Box Size
The other difference between these two mowers is the grass collection box size.
AdvancedRotak 36-660 = 50 Litres
UniversalRotak 36-560 = 40 Litres
So this AdvancedRotak 36-660 mower has a 10 litre larger collection box at 50 litres. This makes sense, as the larger deck size is going to collect the clippings quicker and you don’t want to keep stopping to empty it. Just remember, an almost full 50 litre collection box is going to add to the weight of the mower making it a little more difficult to manoeuvre.
Weight
There really is not much in it, but it’s worth mentioning anyway.
AdvancedRotak 36-660 = 16.5 Kg
UniversalRotak 36-560 = 15 Kg
So naturally the larger AdvancedRotak is going to weigh slightly more than its smaller brother, however, 16.5 Kg is still very respectable and lightweight for a mower packed with features and compares well with other mower brands.

Pros and Cons
Just like its smaller brother, this mower is an impressive machine, with a host of great features to make your life easier. Here are the pros:
Should You Buy This Model?
Bosch have really done themselves proud with this mower. It has some great features that actually help to make mowing your lawn that bit easier and more enjoyable, not just gimmicks that add to the price. The ProSilence is my favourite feature as it allows you to mow earlier in the morning without annoying your neighbours; giving you more time in the day for you to enjoy your lawn and sip a glass of orange juice (or something a little stronger)!
The Bosch AdvancedRotak 36-660 is a large cordless mower, but the fact that it all folds down so well means it takes up the same amount of space as smaller mowers. Yes, it’s not the cheapest mower on the market, but it is a Bosch and it is packed with features that justify paying that bit more. All in all, you will not be disappointed with this Bosch AdvancedRotak 36-660. It is an investment that will just keep giving year after year, and put a smile on your face whilst mowing!
This mower is ideal for those that:
- People with lawns up to 650m² in size.
- Those who want the latest ProSilence Sound Reduction System.
- Those that like to adjust the height of the handles to reduce backache.
- People who like an ergonomically designed mower for increased comfort whilst mowing.
- People who like a stripey lawn.
- Those who like their mower to also collect the leaves whilst mowing.
- People that appreciate a very easy central one touch height adjustment.
- Their garden does not have very narrow strips of lawn.
- People who require the ability to mulch the grass cuttings (optional extra).

Hi Mark,
I am looking to buy a premium cordless lawn mower. The area of my grass is 144m2, currently using the Bosch Cordless Lawnmower EasyRotak 36-550 ideally I would like one with a roller option.
Any suggestions/advice would be much appreciated.
Hi Sunil
I am just about to do a video review of the Cobra RM4140V 41cm that has a dedicated rear roller. I have had great reports about this one and managed to get my hands on one. Just waiting for the lawn to recover from the hot weather and I will complete a video and blog review.
Link to the mower is below.

I think this will suite your lawn size as well (this is the smallest deck size).
Thanks
Mark
Hi Mark
I can’t make my mind up between the 36-650 1x 4ah or the 36-660 2x 2ah models, would 2x 2ah batteries be the the best option so that you can swap batteries when discharged or hope the 1x 4ah last’s the whole mow, presuming that the two mowers have the same motor size, or are there other factors to consider, I note that the overall lawn coverage on both models if fairly similar. (My lawn front and back is between 550 & 600m2).
Thank you
Hi Graham
With other garden tools such as hedge and grass trimmers, I tend to go for the smaller 2.0Ah batteries. This helps to keep the machines light and I just keep swapping/sharing batteries between them.
With the mower, I would go for the 4.0Ah battery so you have a little in reserve if the going get tough like the first cut of the season. You will get the same run-time from both batteries (without the need to swap) and both 2.0Ah and 4.0Ah can be swapped across the range.
Other than that, the two options are are them same.
This is a great mower with features that you will actually make use of and help to make mowing the lawn that much more enjoyable.
Good luck.
Mark
Does this leave mulch after cutting. I used it and the whole garden was left with mulch. Any option to turn it off
Hi Uday, did you purchase the additional mulching plug with this mower? If so, it is most probably already inserted in the mower and that is the reason it is not collecting the grass cutting.
Did you have the grass collection box on at the time of mowing?
Let me know.
Do you know what the difference is between the Bosch Advancedrotak-36-660 and the 36-650. Are they the same except the batteries are different?
I cant see to out anywhere.
Thanks,
Hi Joe, the difference is that the 36-660 has 2 x 2.0Ah batteries and the 36-650 has 1 x 4.0Ah battery that covers a slightly smaller area. Remember that the number i.e. the 660 refers to the square meter coverage.
Hope this helps
What are the dimensions of the AdvancedRotak 36-660 lawn mower (length, width and height of the body, excluding the handle bar). I want to have enough area in my storage shed for this lawn mower.
Hi
So sorry I don’t have this mower anymore and did not take measurements when testing.
I will contact Bosch Garden Tools and let you know when they respond.
Thanks
Mark
