Summary
The Hyundai HYM3200E is an electric corded lawn mower weighing just 8.8kg and is powered by a 1000w motor. It has a 32cm cutting blade, a 25 litre grass collection bag and is designed for small lawns up to 150m². There are 3 cutting heights that range from 25mm to 65mm and comes supplied with a 10 metre power cable.
It isn’t very often that you will stumble upon a budget-friendly lawn mower that is reliable, robust and performs well. But when I looked at and tested the Hyundai HYM3200E, all of these expectations were met, and some were exceeded. For less than ninety quid, this lightweight lawn mower is ideal for smaller lawns and boasts a range of interesting features that put it up there to compete with some of the higher end models. However, this is a budget entry level mower that has some features missing that you need to be aware of.
If you’re looking for something that won’t break the bank and yet is easy to use and does what it’s meant to, then this mower might be suitable for you. If you’re looking for all of the same features but have a slightly larger garden, you can still benefit since the HYM3200E has two older brothers the HYM3300E and the HYM3800E, which have slightly more power, enhanced features and larger cutting widths. While I would love to detail everything about all three mowers in one review, you can simply take a look at my handy comparison table below.
Hyundai is marketing this with a lot of emphasis on the hassle-free design, simplicity, lightweight, compact storage and I have to agree that these are its biggest plus points. But it’s far from being the only one and in my Hyundai HYM3200E review, I will be discussing the other features and highlighting some of the limitations of this machine in a little more depth.
Main Features
- 32cm cutting width
- 25-litre grass box
- 3 cutting heights
- 10m power cable
- 1000w Hyundai motor
- Folding handles
- Safety button
- 3-year warranty
Hyundai HYM3200E Video Review
Power System
What really stood out to me when I was testing this lawn mower was that it runs on an incredibly reliable motor. Hyundai is a brand known for its innovation and reliability and these aspects are perfectly displayed in the power system.
This lawn mower benefits from only a 1000w Hyundai brushed motor that gives smooth, efficient and reliable operation. Not only this but, as I mentioned earlier on, the benefits of a corded model over a petrol mower are many, particularly that the motor will require little to no upkeep and is exceptionally quiet. In the event that anything did go wrong, you’re getting a three year warranty so you can feel confident.
The trouble with corded mowers is that you are limited as to where you can go and there is always a risk of mowing over the cord, so you have to stay on top of moving it out of the mowing path. However, this one comes with a 10-metre power cable, which is decent enough for smaller lawns.
Now I am not going to pretend that a 1000w motor is going to cut unkept, long and thick grass because it will struggle. However, if you follow a regular maintenance schedule this Hyundai 1000w motor is more than sufficient.
I tested this mower on longer grass at the end of my garden, and you can see how well it performs in my video review above.
Performance
If you read up on this mower, you will see that it is being compared to some of the most reputable brands out there like Flymo and Bosch; you could say that these are giants in the mower world and very hard to compete with. However, the Hyundai HYM3200E stands up to the challenge and provides you with a performance that rivals even the top brands entry level mowers.
You could be forgiven for thinking that, owing to the lesser cost, this wouldn’t be a mower that delivered a good cut, but you’d be wrong. OK, it doesn’t have any fancy mowing features like cut-to-edge, mulching, roller or side discharge but what it does do, it does well. Check out my video above to see it in action.
Deck and Blade
In order to make this a lightweight lawn mower, Hyundai has included a plastic deck. Now, you could be concerned that this material isn’t as durable as steel, which is commonly used for petrol mowers, and you would be right in assuming this. But what makes a difference here is that the plastic design will be resistant to rust which can be a leading cause of degradation in steel mowers. So, essentially, you are still getting something that is durable enough for most occasional use domestic situations.
A little concern for me is the way the wheels are attached to the axel. A single split pin is used to secure the wheels to the deck (see video), and I’m not convinced that this will last longer term. I guess you could simply replace the pin should it be required at any point in the future.
What’s more, the bit that really matters are the blades and these are made from robust metal that gave a precise and even cut.
Cutting Diameter
The Hyundai HYM3200E benefits from a 32cm cutting width, this is one of the smallest cutting widths available, and therefore is ideal for anyone who has a small sized garden.
Handles
One of the most significant features of this lawn mower is the handle. This element might not appear to matter very much, but when you think about it, it is kind of the focal point for the user and a part of the mower that you will have a lot of contact with. For this reason, the handle will need to be comfortable and practical.
This one boasts a foldable design which makes storing the mower far less problematic and is essential if you are low on space. Furthermore, both the safety button and Operator Presence Control lever are within easy reach, so you won’t put yourself out trying to operate the machine.
If there was anything that I had to complain about as far as the handle is concerned, it would be that this one lacks padding and having only a single right hand lever. If you’re going to be using the mower a lot, that little bit of extra comfort can go a long way.
Height Adjustment
Some lawn mowers have an astonishing number of cutting heights; I’ve seen some that have up to nine and even higher. While this is great for gardens that have more diverse needs, a small, well-maintained lawn won’t likely need that many.
The Hyundai HYM3200E comes with a choice of three cutting heights measuring 25mm, 45mm and 65mm. These are changed using spring loaded axles under the body of the mower, which needs to be pulled forward and the correct cutting height selected. It’s a pretty simple process although it could have been made easier with a central lever. This is not my favourite method of adjusting the height of the mower and I found this a little stiff and difficult to adjust.
You also have to ensure that both the front and rear axles are set at the same height to ensure the mower is level. Most owners of this mover will most probably set it to their required height setting and leave it at that.
Grass Collection Box
This lawn mower benefits from a 25-litre grass collection box, which is perfectly suited to the size of lawn you will be mowing. It features a hard top which means that it will be more durable, but that could take away some of the breathability that could be lost. This might mean that the grass clippings will tend to clump in the chute particularly if the grass is damp.
That being said, this is a minor downside when you consider that the grass box is easy to remove, making emptying much easier.
During my test I found that the grass clippings were collected well, and there were no issues with the circulation and collection. It is worth mentioning here that there is no full flap indicator on this collection box, that informs you that the grass box is full.
The assembly of the grass box, can be little tricky and time-consuming, but again, refer to my video to see how this is done.
Safety Features
In terms of safety, corded mowers are high up and don’t have very many issues aside from the obvious (cutting through the power cord); the power cord may also serve as a tripping hazard, but that is something that cannot be helped with this type of mower. Always ensure that you use an appropriate RCD (Residual Current Device).
The Hyundai HYM3200E has a safety button which must be engaged before the mower will power up using the operator presence control lever. This might not seem like a lot, but it is a feature that can prevent accidental start-ups particularly if you have curious little hands around.
Practicalities
Let me start by saying that this lawn mower comes with a 3 year warranty which I think is incredibly generous. That being said, this reliable and sturdy little machine likely won’t cause you too many problems but it is nice to have that reassurance, all the same.
In terms of manoeuvrability, you will be pleasantly surprised with this mower; owing to its beautifully lightweight design (just 8.8kg), it is so easy to move around the garden, even for those with mobility issues. What’s more, there is no complicated assembly of the mower, making this a delight to use right out of the box.
But what really caught my attention, and I’m sure it will catch yours too, is that for every product they sell, Hyundai will plant one tree. There is so much focus on sustainability right now and consumers are demanding more and more in terms of this from brands, so this is a very nice touch.
Finally, it cannot go unmentioned that this is a very affordable lawn mower, but the price certainly doesn’t reflect the performance. You might think that the lower price would mean that performance is compromised, but this is an excellent tool for the money. While it is true this mower lacks some of the practicalities of its older brothers, such as the single height adjustment, vertical storage, padded left and right start handles, rear roller and a range of cutting features, what this mower does offer is value, compact storage and simplicity.

Should You Buy This Model?
The Hyundai HYM3200E is a lawn mower that would be ideally suited to anyone looking for a budget-friendly option that can deliver a clean and easy cut. If you are looking to purchase your first lawn mower then I would certainly agree that this would be an excellent place to start. It is simple to use so won’t overwhelm new gardeners with complex functions and yet will help to maintain your lawn perfectly.
Furthermore, this might be a viable lawn mower for elderly people and those with mobility impairments especially where strength is concerned. This is owing to the lightweight design and easy manoeuvrability.
If storage is at a premium, this mower is compact and due to its lightweight can be easily lifted and stored away on a shelf. It is a shame however, that the grass collection box is not hybrid, and doesn’t fold down, as this would have saved even more storage space.
Also, bear in mind that this mower is not designed to cut long, thick and dense grass, as its motor is only 1000W. You would need to maintain your lawn on a regular basis to get the most out of this mower. To see this mower in action check out my video review above, where I included various tests too.
Conclusion
This Hyundai HYM3200E is a wonderful little lawn mower that might not cost the earth, but it will certainly give you the world in terms of performance and reliability. It is powered by a 1000w motor that requires no maintenance, so is perfectly suited to people who just want to get on with the job and don’t want to faff with changing oil, charging batteries and changing spark plugs.
Much more than this, the mower is easy to use and comes with just enough to maintain a small lawn with ease. While there may not be masses of choice when it comes to how you mow and cutting heights, what you do get is a simple and easy to use appliance.
If you like this mower, but would like additional features / more power, then there are alternatives for you to consider in the comparison chart below.

As a seasoned expert in the field of garden power tools, I have dedicated over a decade to working with and reviewing a wide variety of lawn mowers. My extensive experience has allowed me to gain a deep understanding of the benefits and limitations of different types of mowers and garden tools.

So, whether you're looking for a battery cordless, electric, petrol, or robotic mower, you can trust in my expertise to guide you towards the best option for your garden.
I bought one of these mowers, the mower is great, but the power cord where it flexes after the molded plastic socket broke the insulation and the nearly broke off the wires which touched and tripped the fuses. I have tried to get another cable withe molded safety socket on but you can’t even get them from the main Hyundai dealer on the their website. I have a photo of the cable where it has broken. And yes I used the black plastic cable retainer as obviously this is included as Hyundai knows about this problem to help reduce this, if I had seen a review about the breaking cable I would not have bought this. I have a perfectly good electric lawn mower that works well but can’t be powered due to the broken cable and why can’t I get a replacement cable with safety socket? All the cables shown on other websites is without the socket so totally useless. The government made a law for cars to carry spares for 10 years after production, but this model is still being sold but you can’t get a replacement cable with safety socket, really!!! I will not be buying a Hyundai electric lawn mower again. This was a replacement mower for my qualcast electric corded lawn mower which burnt out after over 35 years of use. My recommendation do not touch any model that has type of safety socket.
I have now bought a sovereign mower with a much better wired safety system and hope this will last a long time.
Hi Mark, thanks for your feedback. Did you contact Hyundai directly to ask them about the replacement cable? How old was the mower? Was it still not covered by the warranty? Thanks Mark
